Cult Nails Road Trip, Anyone? Swatches and Review

If you’ve ever been on a road trip, you know that such trips are (usually) total blasts. They’re filled with fun, adventure, and surprises and leave you with one-of-a-kind memories. I remember one summer night in high school when two of my girlfriends and two of our coworkers decided to leave work one night and go to the beach. We piled into a car and headed out, with no real plans and no place to stay. After getting lost repeatedly, we finally made it to the bay area. The campground was closed for the night, so we just parked our car in the parking lot and wandered out to the docks. We ended up fishing with some people out on the pier and then laying at the end of the dock trying to find constellations in the stars. Eventually we tried to sleep in the car (that was a cramped and ultimately sleepless experience) before reaching the beach in the morning. We spread a big blanket out on the sand…and it started to rain. Everyone on the beach ran for the shops along the small boardwalk and we laid there in the rain, laughing. In terms of things working out according to plan, that trip was a total bust. But in terms of having a great time? That trip was amazing.

Cult Nail’s new Road Trip, Anyone? collection fits the spirit of road trips to a T. This five-piece collection is made up of three bright cremes and two gorgeous effect top coats.

The first shade I tried was Be Loco, a vibrant orange-y coral creme. I was a little concerned that Be Loco would be close to Scandalous, but I’d say they’re more cousins than sisters. Be Loco is a creme while Scandalous is a jelly, and the pigmentation and finish of Be Loco make it a much more vibrant shade. I used two coats plus Nail Envy as a base and Cult Nails Wicked Fast topcoat. I will apologize in advance – this post is a tad picture heavy! All lighting is noted in the captions.

Perfection <3 It’s so bright and such a beautiful shade! Next up I topped Be Loco with the two effect top coats, All Out and Mayhem. All Out is a shimmering yellow topper, while Mayhem is Cult Nails first holographic top coat! I decided to layer them over Be Loco side by side with Be Loco alone on either side for comparison. I used one coat of All Out and one coat of Mayhem.

All Out transformed Be Loco into a shimmering, glowy tangerine orange while Mayhem added a subtle holo. Both of these finishes were beautiful in general, but especially so in the sunlight. I didn’t want to take this mani off but I had to for the next shade, Party Time.

Party Time is a bright, true blue creme. I used two coats with base and top coat for the swatches below. I will warn you – Party Time is a big-time stainer. Blues sometimes do stain so I removed it carefully. I pressed an acetone-soaked cotton ball against my nail for about 5-10 seconds and then swiped down hard away from my finger. Despite trying not to touch my skin, I was left with blue-stained nails and the skin around my nails was tinged blue. It took a few more times with nail polish remover and some good scrubbing to get all of the stains off…next time I’ll double or triple up on base coat.

Then I used one coat of All Out on my middle finger and one coat of Mayhem on my ring finger -

All Out transformed Party Time into a pretty green-blue! Mayhem definitely stands out more against Party Time than Be Loco. Beautiful!

Last but not least is Riot, a fun name for a fun polish. Cult Nails describes Riot as “a mint green on roids.” I’d say it’s like a cross between an amped up mint green and a turquoise creme. I only used one coat of Riot for swatches!

I accidentally reversed where I put All Out and Mayhem for these swatches – All Out is on my ring finger and Mayhem is on my middle finger for the swatches below.

Drool. All Out changed Riot into a gorgeous lime green and Mayhem is the perfect holo compliment to Riot. I ended up adding Mayhem to the rest of my nails and leaving this on as my weekend mani.  :)

I’m so happy that I bought Road Trip, Anyone? during the collection presale! I may already have some shades close to the cremes in this collection, but all three of the cremes are so pigmented and beautiful that I know I’ll be reaching for them again in every season. Riot is my favorite, followed closely by Be Loco. The effect top coats are gorgeous! I love that Mayhem gives me the freedom to make any polish I own a holo, although it is a subtle one that stands out best over the darkest shade of this collection. All Out is amazing in its ability to transform cremes into a new, shimmering color. I can’t wait to try it over more polishes!

You can buy Road Trip, Anyone? as a set on the Cult Nails site for $62.00 and polishes will go up for individual purchase soon! All shades will be $12.00 with the exception of Mayhem, which will retail for $14.00.  Cult Nails now ships free in the United States and does ship internationally, although you may have to email Cult Nails about international restrictions if you don’t see your country listed on the site shipping list.

What do you think of the shades in Road Trip, Anyone? Are any of these on your must-get list? What’s your best road trip memory? Let me know in the comments! :)
